Two Employer Job Offer Streams of Ontario Gets Opened and Closed on the Same Day

Yesterday, Ontario opened its applications for two employer job offer streams. After going through some technical issues, both streams got their desired number of candidates in the short span of the application period and have been closed.

The OINP (Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program) Employer Job Offer category permits immigrants, who have a job offer to apply to get a provincial nomination for Canada PR. They can apply from inside or outside of Canada if they are hired for permanent employment by an Ontario employer.

On 3rd March 2020, OINP issued a statement saying that it is opening applications in the International Student Stream. Due to technical issues, the intake was quickly paused, said the Ontario web page.

Later, it was reopened along with Foreign Worker Stream. Both the streams reached their maximum intake limit shortly and were closed.

OINP had announced that they received 1322 registrations when the applications were open. Those who registered successfully and got their file number have 14 days to give an application. The application process takes about 3 hours on the web portal of OINP.

A representative of the OINP said in an email that the demand in both the streams was very high, and because of this, not all who wished to register could register. The representative also said that the OINP would keep monitoring the applications in all streams to tell when the Employer Job Offer: International Student and Foreign Worker streams will again open in 2020.

Until further notice, the application intake for both the streams is closed.

The applications for eligible candidates for In-Demand Skills Stream under Ontario’s Employer Job Offer category are open.

Migrating to Ontario to work

Ontario’s Employer Job Offer category has three streams:

       1.  Foreign workers stream:

In this, the applicants need to get a job offer in any skilled occupation in the NOC (National Occupation Classification) code of type 0, type A or type B.

2.  International Student Stream:

In this, the eligible students need to have a job offer in any skilled occupation

3.  In-Demand Skills Stream:

It is meant for international workers, who get a job offer in some in-demand occupations.

Anyway, the Employer Job Offer category is not the single option for people from abroad to migrate to Ontario.

The human capital category of OINP doesn’t essentially need the candidates to have a job offer in the province. It includes both the categories of foreign workers and international student graduates.

The candidates who are eligible to get an Express Entry managed program can migrate to Ontario through the following three streams:

1.  Ontario Express Entry: Human Capital Priorities Stream:

This is the pathway for those candidates who qualify under the Canadian Experience Class or Federal Skilled Worker Program. They need to meet some other criteria regarding the study, work experience, and linguistic requirements.

2.  Ontario Express Entry: French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream:

The candidates who can speak both English and French with work experience in skilled occupations can be invited to get a provincial nomination under this.

3.  Ontario Express Entry: Skilled Trades Stream:

It is for Federal Skilled Trades Program candidates who are currently working or have to experience working in the province recently.

International Graduate Streams have options in the following options for Masters and Ph.D. graduates:

Masters Graduate Stream: International students who have graduated with a masters’ degree in an Ontario institution can apply for migration to the province even without a job offer. This stream is not accepting applications right now.

Ph.D. Graduate Stream: The candidates who had done their Ph.D. from an Ontario University are eligible for a nomination without a job. Applications are open under this category.
