3 PNP draws by PEI
Ninety immigration candidates invited by Prince Edward Island in three draws held in June.
The PEI Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) usually gives draw dates for the year far before they occur, but this year the draws were rescheduled because of the coronavirus restrictions.
On June 10, the first draw invited nine Express Entry and Labour Impact, candidates. Then on June 18, 10 invitations were issued for candidates in the identical categories.
91 invitations were issued in the round held on June 23. Business Impact candidates were invited for the first time since the virus gripped Canadian businesses. With 20 immigrant entrepreneurs invited, it was the biggest round of the year for this section.
71 Labour and Express Entry candidates were also invited in the same draw.
Express Entry Category of Prince Edward Island
The PEI PNP's Express Entry Category is an improved program. It means that this program is aligned with the federal government's Express Entry system.
Express Entry handles the applications for Canada's three economic class immigration categories, the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades Program.
Eligible candidates are awarded a score in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) based on their age, professional experience, education, and proficiency in English or French.
Express Entry candidates who receive a nomination from a Canadian province are given an extra 600 points in their score in CRS, and are mostly an Invitation to Apply (ITA) is guaranteed for permanent residence in an Express Entry draw, eventually.
To be considered for a nomination from the province of PEI, Express Entry candidates need to create an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile on the province's website.
These EOI profiles are awarded points based on the unique points grid of the province. The highest-scoring applicants are then given invitations to apply by monthly draws.
The PEI PNP did not provide an analysis of how many Express Entry and Labour Impact candidates were issued invitations, nor did it mention the minimum EOI score required for each section.
Labour Impact Category
Applicants in the Labour Impact Category were also invited in all three draws of June.
This category is for foreign citizens who have a valid job offer in PEI and have assistance from their employers.
It is split into three streams:
- Skilled Worker
- Critical Worker
- International Graduate
Candidates in this category should also submit an EOI profile to get a provincial nomination through the Labour Impact Category.
Business Impact Category
The PEI PNP invited 20 candidates with an EOI profile in the Business Impact: Work Permit Stream.
The invited candidates were required to have a minimum EOI score of 117.
The Work Permit Stream is meant for the migration of businesspeople who wish to own and operate a business in PEI.
