5 Key Insights: Canada Updates Minimum Fund Requirements for Express Entry Programs

Published on : July 8, 2025

Kansas Overseas is here to help you stay ahead of the changes and ensure your Canada pr visa journey is smooth and successful. In recent updates, Canada updates minimum fund requirements for Express Entry programs—and we’re breaking it all down for you.

1. What’s Changing?

On July 7, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) revised the minimum required settlement funds for Express Entry applicants under the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). This means that applicants now need more money to support themselves and their families, based on annually adjusted low‑income cut‑offs

2. Updated Settlement Funds Table

Here’s an updated breakdown to help you calculate your financial readiness:

Family Size

Required Funds (CAD) as of July 7, 2025

2

3

4

5

$32,168

6

7

$40,392

+ each additional

+$4,112

3. Who Must Provide Funds (and Who’s Exempt)?

Applicants under FSWP or FSTP without a valid job offer or ongoing Canadian work authorization are required to show proof of funds

Exemptions apply if:

  • You qualify under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), or
  • You hold a valid work authorization in Canada (e.g., a work permit or job offer).

However, IRCC still requests financial documentation unless an exemption letter is uploaded.

4. What Counts as Acceptable Proof?

IRCC requires bank-issued proof of funds, including:

  • Official letters detailing account type, balances, average balances over 6 months, debts, and date opened.
  • Must be in your name (or jointly with your spouse) and legally accessible upon arrival in Canada.

Assets such as property equity or borrowed money do not count.

5. Why This Matters for Your Immigration Goals

  • Stay eligible: Ensure your Express Entry profile includes the revised fund amounts to avoid ineligibility or losing rank.
  • Protect your position: When candidates are tied at the same CRS score, profile timestamps are decisive—don’t lose your moment.
  • Attract Canada's attention: Demonstrate reliability and preparedness—key ingredients to a fast and positive outcome.
