Express Entry: 589 Invited in the 4th PNP Draw Held in 2023

Published on : May 11, 2023

Canada holds the 4th PNP-specific Express Entry draw of the year. The previous PNP-only round of invitation was on March 1, 2023.

On May 10, 2023, another 589 Canadian immigration hopefuls received invitations to apply under Express Entry, an online application management system. Express Entry draws are held by the federal government of Canada through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Previous draws had invited candidates from all the 3 Express Entry programs -

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Federa; Skilled Trades Program
  • Canadian Experience Class

However, the latest Express Entry draw only considered those with a nomination under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).

Who got ITA in Express Entry Draw #248?

In the latest PNP-only Express Entry draw, invitations to apply (ITAs) were issued to those who -

  • Met the eligibility requirement of at least 1 Express Entry program,
  • Had a Nomination Certificate under Canadian PNP,
  • Had a score of at least 691, and
  • Had created their EE profile before March 8, 2023 at 16:42:17 UTC, the tie-break applied by IRCC.

What is the CRS score in Express Entry? Why does it matter?

Candidates that secure 67 points on the eligibility calculation are entered into the Express Entry pool. Here, another score comes into play. Allotted on a 1,200-point Comprehensive Ranking System, this is the CRS score of that Express Entry profile.

A good CRS score matters as IRCC issues invitations to apply to the highest-ranked. The minimum CRS cut-off varies from draw to draw. The higher your CRS, the better are your chances of being invited to apply.

A Canadian permanent residence application under Express Entry can only be submitted after an official invitation is received from IRCC.

Why do Express Entry PNP-only draws have high CRS scores?

PNP-only draws have a CRS requirement in the higher range. A PNP nomination gets you CRS 600 points. If we exclude the points allotted based on nomination, the base score requirement goes down. For example, the cut-off in EE Draw #248 is CRS 691. If the 600 of a PNP nomination are removed, it leaves a human capital factors score requirement of only 91.

What is Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program?

The Provincial Nominee Program of Canada offers another pathway to get a Canada PR visa. There are over 80 different streams or immigration pathways under Canadian PNP.

Under the PNP, provinces and territories get to nominate candidates that they find to have the most potential. Those nominated can use their Nomination Certificate to apply to IRCC for PR in Canada. Some of the PNP streams are linked with Express Entry.

PNPs are run by -

Nominations under Express Entry linked PNP streams are referred to as enhanced nominations with a completely online and expedited application process.
