What is Manitoba PNP’s Skilled Worker in Manitoba category?

The Skilled Worker in Manitoba (SWM) route is for candidates that have “a strong connection” to Manitoba. Through the close relative in Manitoba selection criteria, those who qualified under SWM in the latest MPNP draw had a supporter in Manitoba. This person could be either -

(1) a close relative,

(2) a Canadian PR visa holder, or

(3) a Canadian citizen.

They should have been living in Manitoba for a minimum of one year from the date of applying.

Close relationships accepted for MPNP’s SWM category are -

  • Mother
  • Father
  • Sister
  • Brother
  • Grandmother
  • Grandfather
  • Niece (daughter of your brother/sister)
  • Nephew (son of your brother/sister)
  • Aunt (sister of your mother/father)
  • Uncle (brother of your mother/father)
  • First cousin (child of your uncle/aunt)

There must be clear documentary proof to provide as support of the relationship. A Settlement Plan will also be required.

What is Manitoba PNP’s Skilled Worker Overseas stream?

Under the Skilled Worker Overseas stream, you need not have a prior connection to Manitoba. However, you must have either -

  1. Received a direct invitation from the MPNP under a Strategic Recruitment Initiative, or
  2. Provided a valid Express Entry profile number with job seeker validation code.

Your Express Entry profile must be valid at the time of the assessment of your application.

What is Manitoba PNP’s International Education Stream (IES)?

The MPNP’s IES route is specifically for foreign nationals that have graduated from a designated post-secondary institution in Manitoba. There are three separate pathways under Manitoba’s IES -

  • Career Employment Pathway.
  • Graduate Internship Pathway, and
  • International Student Entrepreneur Pilot (ISEP).

Foreign students that have graduated from another Canadian province are not eligible for Manitoba PNP’s International Education Stream. They can apply under the Skilled Worker in Manitoba stream instead.

Manitoba is among the top Canadian provinces with a high demand for skilled foreign labour. With the latest round of invitations, a total of 1,097 invitations have been issued by MPNP in 2024 so far -

  • EOI Draw #210 on February 8 - invitations: 282

  • EOI Draw #208 on January 25 - invitations: 275
  • EOI Draw #207 on January 11 - invitations: 423

Welcoming around 15,000 newcomers a year, Manitoba is a choice of many for different reasons.

Why choose Manitoba to settle in Canada as a permanent resident?

Newcomers choose Manitoba for -

  • A strong and diverse economy,
  • A low cost of living,
  • Many job opportunities,
  • Easy to start a business,
  • Affordability when compared to many other provinces,
  • High quality of free public health care, and
