Eligibility & Requirements of the UK Dependent Visa

Tier 1 (General) & Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) Migrant

The family member can be:

• A husband, wife, or a civil partner
• An unmarried child, below 18 years of age
• An unmarried or same-sex partner

The financial requirements depend on your circumstances:

• If you are applying from within the UK
• If you are applying from outside the UK

Tier 1 (investor) & Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) migrant or Global Talent migrant conditions

Dependents of this visa category do not need to satisfy any requirements or terms & conditions whatsoever.

Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) conditions

The family member can be:

• A husband, wife, or a civil partner
• An unmarried child below 18 years of age
• An unmarried or same-sex partner

• Unmarried or same-sex partner.

You are eligible to bring your dependent family members if you are:

• Sponsored by a higher education provider on any course, which is equivalent to level 7 or above on the Ofqual register with a duration of 9 months or more.
• A new government-sponsored student of any course with a duration of 6 months or more.
• A Doctorate Extension Scheme student.

Also, the terms and conditions applicable to a dependent applicant depend on the following circumstances:

• Tenure of the Tier 4 Visa holder student’s course.
• Location of the Tier 4 student in the UK.

• Marriage/Civil Partnership Certificates.
• Bank/Housing Society Statements.
• Tax Bills.
• Medical Registration Documents.
• Utility Bills.
• Sponsor’s CAS Number.

• Birth certificate (which includes parents’ details)

Any 2 of the following documents:

• Bank statements
• Credit card bills
• Driving license
• NHS registration document
• Letter for address proof from current school/college/university

• They’ll need to have their fingerprints and photographs taken at the closest visa application centre.
• They would need to collect their biometric residence permit within 30 days before arrival in the UK.

They may be able to get their visa faster depending upon the country they are in.

While dependents can apply at a later date, it would be best to apply at the same time as the sponsor does.

The dependent will be asked to make an appointment at the UK Visa & Citizenship Application Services (UKVACS) to provide biometric information. They will also have to submit supporting documents.

• Get them scanned at the UKVACS Centre

You can apply online for your dependent children born in the UK. This is also required if you would like to travel in and out of the UK with your child. You will have to provide full details showing the names of both parents along with their UK birth certificates.

Costs for applying from within the UK

If you are applying from within the UK, and have lived in the UK for more than 12 months:

• Your sponsor in the UK must have £945.
• Each dependent must have £630.

You must prove the presence of this amount in either your or your sponsor’s bank account for at least 90 days before applying for the visa.

Each dependent must also have to pay:

• £1,878 as application fees.

The healthcare surcharge. 

• £19.20 for the biometrics (fingerprints & photo).
• You can pay £800 for the super-priority service, which gets your decision within one working day.

Costs for applying from outside the UK 

If you are applying from outside the UK, or have lived in the UK for less than 12 months:

• Your sponsor in the UK must have £945.
• Each dependent must have £1890.

Each dependent must also have to pay:

• £1,021 as application fees.

The healthcare surcharge. 

• £19.20 for the biometrics (fingerprints & photo).

If you are applying from within the UK, and have lived in the UK for 12 months or more:

• Each dependent must have £630.
• Each dependent must also have to pay:
   £493 as application fees.

You must prove the presence of this amount in either your account or your sponsor’s bank account for at least 90 days before applying for the visa.

• Each dependent must also have to pay: £363 as application fees.

• If the Tier 4 Visa holder student has, or applying for the Doctorate Extension Scheme
• Your sponsor must have £1265 per month.
• If the Tier 4 Student Visa holder is studying in London:
• You must have £845 per month in savings.
• If the Tier 4 Student Visa holder is studying outside of London:
• You must have £680 per month in savings.
• Each dependent must also have to pay:
• £475 as application fees.
• The healthcare surcharge and £19.20 for the biometrics (fingerprints & photo).
• You can pay £500 for priority service which gets your decision within 5 working days. 
• You can pay £800 for the super-priority service which gets your decision within 1 working day. The standard processing time for this visa is 8 weeks.

• Each dependent must have £630.
