6 Canadian Provinces to Increase Minimum Wage Rate from October 1, 2023

Published on : September 25, 2023

The minimum wage rate in many Canadian provinces will soon go up. Applicable to all employees. No age or hours worked requirement.

Effective October 1, 2023, six of the 10 provinces in Canada will introduce the new minimum wage. In Canada, an employee must be paid a minimum wage rate. In situations where the provincial minimum wage rate is more than the federal minimum wage, the employee must be paid the higher of the two.

The minimum wage rate is the basic amount per hour to be paid by an employer in a province. To be hired, an employee must be paid at least the minimum remuneration. An employer cannot pay less than the set minimum wage rate.
