The Australian government recently invited 363 skilled immigrants through the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) and Skilled Work Regional visa (subclass 491).

The Australian Department of Home Affairs had last year ruled that they will run quarterly invitation draws for the rest of the 2020-21 program year.

Invitation Subclasses

Out of the total 363 invitations sent, 200 invitations were issued to Skilled Independent visa candidates, and 163 were given to Skilled Work Regional visa candidates.

The Skilled Independent Visa invites skilled professions to work in Australia. It is for those workers who have not been nominated by a territory or sponsored by a family member.

The Skilled Work Regional visa is a new provisional visa. It allows skilled workers to live, study and work in a particular regional area with their family for five years.

The SkillSelect Program allots invitations to first the Subclass 189 candidates, and the remaining (if any) invitations are allotted Subclass 491 candidates.

Invitation Process & Cut-off Score

The highest-ranking immigration candidates are invited to apply for the relevant visa. Candidates with the same score are decided for invitation based on when they reached their points score.

This is called a ‘date of effect’, and candidates with an earlier date of effect are invited before candidates with later dates.
