Canada Express Entry: 1,490 ITAs in the 4th General Draw of 2024

Published on : February 14, 2024

Canada holds the fifth Express Entry round of invitations in 2024. The latest EE draw is another general draw, following a category-based selection on the first day of the month.

Express Entry system draw number 283 was held on February 13, 2024. The exact time of the draw was 14:18:53 UTC. Another 1,490 got invitations to apply (ITA). The minimum ranking score required was CRS 535.

Those invited can proceed to submitting their applications for Canadian permanent residence. An Express Entry ITA is valid for the next 60 days. An application must be submitted before the invitation expires.

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is a flagship application management system. It was launched by the Canadian government in January 2015.

Which programs come under Canadian Express Entry?

Three of the main economic immigration programs of Canada are managed through Express Entry. Express Entry programs are -

  1. Federal Skilled Worker program
  2. Canadian Experience Class
  3. Federal Skilled Trades Program

Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) also has certain pathways linked with the Express Entry of Canada.

How are Express Entry invitations sent?

Invitations are issued to the highest-ranked candidates in the Express Entry pool. In each round there are also additional criteria in place.

Depending on the type of Express Entry draw, invitations can be sent out to -

  • General candidates
  • Those with work experience in specific occupations or with French-language ability under category-based selection, or
  • Candidates eligible for an Express Entry linked PNP stream.

To be considered by a province as a potential nominee, a candidate must mention their interest in PNP in the Express Entry profile. An expression of interest (EOI) profile will also have to be created with that particular province.

What is the ranking score of an Express Entry profile?

The ranking score is given based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). This is also referred to as the CRS score of that individual. The ranking score is given on a maximum of 1,200. It is different from the 67 points needed to create an Express Entry profile.

Why is a tie-breaking rule applied?

In the latest Express Entry Draw #283, the tie-break applied was that of February 11, 2024 at 15:26:56 UTC. The tie-break is applicable only to profiles that have the minimum CRS required for that draw. With the tie-break rule, profiles created earlier are prioritized over those entered in the EE pool at a later date.

With the latest round of invitations, altogether 11,770 ITAs have been issued so far in 2024. The annual PR admissions target for Express Entry in 2024 stands at 110,770. Of the total 485,000 Canada PR visas to be granted in 2024, around 22.84% will be through Express Entry.
