Canada Express Entry Category-Based Selection: 1,000 Invited from Trade Occupations

Published on : December 20, 2023

Another round of invitations held by the Canadian government under the Express Entry system. The latest draw took place under a category-based selection for trade occupations.

On December 19, 2023, another 1,000 received invitations to apply through Express Entry application system. This is only the second draw to be held for trade occupations since the launch of category-based selection in May 2023. The previous trade occupation only draw was held on August 3, 2023.

The first category-based draw was held by Canada on June 28, 2023, in which healthcare professionals were specifically targeted.

The latest round of Express Entry invitations were issued under Express Entry system draw number 276. There were a total of 1,000 invited that had their profiles under trade occupations. The minimum score requirement was that of CRS 425. Express Entry profiles are given a ranking in the pool of candidates. Points are allotted on a 1,200-point matrix which is the Comprehensive Ranking System.

A tie-breaking rule of November 04, 2023 at 11:16:58 UTC was applied.

What is category-based selection for Express Entry?

There are three kinds of Express Entry draws. General draws have no Express Entry program specified. The program-specific draw, on the other hand, only targets a particular program. For example, a program-specific draw can only be for provincial nominees that have secured a nomination under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).

Category-based selection is when draws are held under any of the preset categories which are selected to meet specific requirements in the Canadian labour market.

The 6 categories for 2023 under Express Entry category-based selection are -

  1. Healthcare occupations
  2. Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) occupations
  3. French-language proficiency
  4. Trade occupations
  5. Agriculture and agri-food occupations
  6. Transport occupations
