Newfoundland & Labrador introduce a new immigration pathway to Canada to attract highly skilled professionals.

The provincial government of Newfoundland & Labrador is looking for highly educated and skilled immigrants. 

A new immigration pathway was announced on November 18, and that it will look to retain professionals who are already in the province.

The Priority Skills Pathway

This pathway is open to professionals with work experience in specialized industries like technology. It is expected to be launched on 2nd January 2020.

It is to address the labour shortages within the province in specific high-growth industries. This comes in response to the growing demands of employers for skilled and experienced workers.

Priority Skills Newfoundland & Labrador under the NL Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) will focus on suitable candidates.

Eligibility Criteria for Priority Skills Pathway

This route is straightforward for Masters or Ph.D. candidates of Memorial University having graduated, within the last three years. 

Their degrees should, however, relate to:

  • Information & Communications Technology
  • Ocean Technology
  • Healthcare
  • Agriculture
  • Aquaculture

Prospective candidates are also required to demonstrate their proficiency in the English language. They must take the IELTS or CELPIP test and score equivalent to the Canadian Language Benchmark level 5 or more.
