On Thursday, the Canadian province of Quebec released its new immigration plans that set a target of inviting 52,500 new immigrants to the province for permanent residence.

Quebec Immigration Plan

The province tabled the Quebec Immigration Plan in the National Assembly, according to the provisions set in the Quebec Immigration Act.

The Plan is in line with the objectives set during the public consultation that was held in the summer of 2019 as part of the province’s Quebec Immigration planning for the 2020-2022 period.

It asks for the admission of 49,500 to 52,500 immigration candidates that year, apart from an extra 18,000 new admissions, to reach the levels that were not achieved by the federal government last year due to the onset of the global pandemic.

Immigration Streams

Most of the new immigrants to the province will come through its economic immigration programs, i.e., the Skilled Worker program and the Quebec Experience Program.

The Skilled Worker Program requires applicants to prove at least one year of work experience in a skilled occupation.

It is a point-based program, and thus, the applicants must have a score above a set requirement according to the points assessment grid to be eligible.

The Quebec Experience Program necessitates that applicants have previous experience in the province as either an international student or foreign temporary worker.

The applicants must prove advanced knowledge of oral French, along with some other requirements.
