On May 30, 2024, the Canadian Government held another round of invitations under the Express Entry system. A total of 2,985 Canadian immigration hopefuls were issued invitations to apply in the latest Express Entry Draw Number 296. It was a draw specifically for those with a nomination under Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program, also commonly known as Canadian PNP.
With a PNP nomination worth CRS 600 points in itself, the points cut-off in EE Draw #296 was that of CRS 676. Express Entry profiles are ranked on a score given per the 1,200 point Comprehensive Ranking System.
Based on the specific draw criteria, those who received invitations -
Generally, a tie-breaking rule is applied by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The tie-break is used so as to give priority to profiles that had been created at an earlier date over those entered into the candidate pool later.
A tie-breaking rule is applicable only to profiles that have the minimum cut-off for that particular round of invitations. The latest Express Entry draw on May 30, 2024, had a minimum cut-off of CRS 676. Now, the tie-breaking rule of January 19, 2024 at 18:32:21 UTC will be applicable to all profiles that have CRS 676 as their score.
If 2 profiles have the same required minimum CRS score, the one created before the tie-break is given priority over the EE profile made later. This is done so as to grant precedence to Express Entry profiles that have been in the candidate pool for a longer time. A profile in the Express Entry system is valid for 1 year from the date of creation.
Canada runs a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) under which the Canadian provinces and territories nominate people for Canadian permanent residency. Each of the Canadian provinces (except Quebec) and each of the Canadian territories (except Nunavut) run a PNP.
Quebec and Nunavut do not have PNPs. Quebec immigration runs separately. Nunavut does not have an immigration program.
9 provinces in Canada have a PNP. 2 Canadian territories come under PNP.
