  • About the CEC and PNP draws

On 22 July, 4,500 express entry candidates received invitations to apply for Canadian permanent residence by Canada's immigration department. Candidates who scored a minimum of 357 have received the invitations. Not only that, as per the tie break rule, only the candidates who submitted their profiles before February 14, 2021, at 09:04:15 were invited.

Though in the previous year, the cutoff score was 369, this year it is 357 which is the second-lowest score for a CEC draw ever. The first lowest score was 75 that was fixed by immigration, refugees, and citizenship (IRCC) Canada on February 13.

About the CEC and PNP draws

Because of this pandemic situation, IRCC has been only holding CEC and Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)-specific draws as it will decrease the chances of being disrupted by public health measures such as travel restrictions. On the other side, In August, Canada will reopen non-essential travel for fully vaccinated people from the U.S but direct flights from India will be suspended till 21st August.

According to this new immigration plan, Canada will welcome 401,000 new immigrants and 1/4 of these will come through the Express Entry System. Almost 2x people are invited this year compared to the previous one and a large number of people were invited from the February 13 draw where IRCC has invited a total of 27,332 CEC eligible candidates.

As PNP candidates automatically get 600 added points, PNP and CEC score requirements are different from each other. For this whole process, IRCC takes more off the allowings for the cutoff score.
