With the introduction of category-based draws, there are now three different kinds of Express Entry draws held by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

What are the types of IRCC Express Entry draws?

From June-end, Canada has introduced category-based selections in Express Entry. 500 healthcare workers received ITAs in Express Entry Draw # 252 held on June 28, 2023.

With the introduction of targeted Express Entry draws, there are three different draws that can be be held by IRCC -

  • General,
  • Program-specific, or
  • Category-based.

Details of the general and program-specific draws are not announced before-hand. However, the selection criteria for an upcoming category-based draw are announced in advance by IRCC.The next category-based draw is expected to be specifically for skilled workers with experience in STEM professions. The first category-based draw was targeted at healthcare workers.
