Eligibility for Parents and Grandparents PR Visa

If you want to bring your parents or grandparents to Canada, you can sponsor them by checking the below-listed eligibility requirements as a sponsor for their PR visa:

  • You should be at least 18 years old and above.
  • You should live in Canada.
  • You should either be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada or an individual registered under the Canadian Indian Act.
  • You should have adequate funds to support the parent you are sponsoring.
  • Your parents and grandparents should have a blood relation to you or be legally adopted by you.
  • A sponsorship agreement must be signed accepting to provide basic needs for family members for the next 20 years.

Who is not eligible for to sponsor your parents?

You may not be able to sponsor a parent if you:

  • Are currently in prison or have been convicted of other criminal offences.
  • Have not paid your alimony or child support payments.
  • Have declared bankruptcy and have not been released from it yet.
  • Have received social assistance for reasons other than being disabled.
  • Have failed to pay back an immigration loan or made late payments.
  • Have sponsored another relative in the past and did not meet the terms of the sponsorship agreement.

Documents for Parents Canadian PR Visa
