UK Launches Young Professional Scheme For Indians

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Young Professionals Scheme. The scheme welcomes young Indians to live and work in the United Kingdom. The Indians of age 18-30 can stay, work, and live in the UK with their authorized visa.

The selected candidates can visit the UK, leave in between, and return to the country within the valid period. The scheme allows Indians to stay for two years, says the British High Commission in India. After two years of stay, the candidates are expected to return to India.

The scheme is an agreement for three years, effective from March 2023. For two years, the authorized citizens of the UK and India can travel to each other's countries. The countries will exchange 3000 eligible candidates.

The UK and India scheme is an initiative to develop a friendly relationship between the two countries. The UK is willing to show its commitment to developing the bond with the Indo-Pacific region and preparing for the ongoing free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations.

Know before applying for the scheme

  • The UK government invited 2400 applicants in the first ballot under the new scheme
  • Eligible candidates can enter the online ballot by entering the required details
  • The ballot is free to enter which opens from February 28, 2023, to March 02, 2023
  • The scheme is only for the candidates who intend to apply for the UK residence permit
  • The applicant should schedule a visa appointment
  • The residence permit costs £259 (approx ₹26,000) and a healthcare surcharge of Pound 940 (approx ₹94,000)
  • Selected candidates must travel to the UK within six months of visa approval
  • The typical processing time after submitting the visa appointment is three weeks
  • If your application is refused, you can reattempt in the future ballot entries

What are the eligibility criteria for the scheme?

  • The age criteria are 18-30 years old to visit the UK, stay and work in the country
  • Candidates must be proficient in the UK’s native language
  • Candidates must hold a degree or diploma qualification (equivalent to three years of formal education)
  • Maintain a balance of £2,530 ( (approximately ₹2.6 lakhs) in the bank account (the balance must be stable for 28 days before application)
  • The applicant must also enclose the clearance certificate from India

Youth Mobility Visa

Indians with an educational qualification of Diploma or degree can participate in the program. The applicants must be fluent in the language of the host country. The Prime Minister Rishi Sunak issued 3,000 visas for young professionals to work in the UK.The mobility partnership was launched by the UK last year and India is the first country to benefit from the visa program.
