Francine Mc Carthy is a Professor and Graduate Program Director of Earth Sciences at Brock University. A micropaleontologist interested in paleoenvironmental reconstruction, her work involves research on climate change.

Recently, Francine McCarthy was in the news for being part of an anthropocene working group at Crawford Lake. The team of international experts and geologists collected and analyzed sediment at Crawford Lake, a prominent Canadian lake, to find proof of human impact on the Earth. The evidence collected includes fly ash, fertilizers, microplastics, and plutonium-239.
