2. Provincial Nominee Program

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is introduced by Canada to enable provinces of the country to select immigrants to work and live in them. Initially, all the immigrants were invited only from Express Entry, but to give chance for the individual provinces to choose candidates according to their needs and vacancies, this program was introduced. This program doesn’t allow you to settle in the province of Quebec.

You can apply for a PNP in 2 ways:

  • Directly apply for a PNP
  • Apply through Express Entry

a) Directly apply for a PNP:

You need to apply to the province through the website of that province. This is called an “Expression of Interest.” If you satisfy all the basic requirements and your occupation has demand in the province, the province will issue a nomination for you. Now you can apply for the Canada Permanent Residence.

b) Apply through Express Entry:

In the express entry system, you can again apply in 2 ways:

  • You can directly contact the province and submit your visa application under Express Entry. If you get a nomination, then you can update your profile in Express Entry if you already have created it, or you can create a profile and add the nomination to the new profile.
  • You can create an Express Entry profile and in it, you can mention the province you are interested in going and working in. If the province likes your profile, then they will send a notification of interest. Then you can contact the province through the website and apply to the nomination through the Express Entry system.

Step by step immigration process to apply for Canada Permanent Residence with the help of PNPs:

The below steps would explain to you how to apply for a Canada Permanent Residence visa through PNP:

  • Step 1: Determine whether you are eligible to apply for a particular province. Each province may differ in eligibility criteria according to their vacancies and other demands. You need to search for the requirements of the province you are going to submit an application, to get the correct eligibility of that province.
  • Step 2: After you make sure that you have all the criteria needed by a province, apply to the PNP of that province.
  • Step 3: If you meet all the requirements of a province, you will be selected to get a nomination and the province will send you the nomination, with which you can proceed further.
  • Step 4: If you got PNP by Express Entry aligned system you need to apply for Canadian immigration through Express Entry, otherwise, you need to apply through a paper-based system to live and work in Canada.

Advantages of PNP

There are numerous advantages of getting a provincial nomination if you are planning to migrate to the country. Let’s see them here:

  • The major benefit of getting a nomination from a Canadian province is that it increases your CRS score to an additional 600 points. This will make you a top scorer in the Express Entry pool and would fetch you an "Invitation to Apply" (ITA) for sure.
  • Even if you have less score in the CRS, many provinces accept you and will give you nominations to get Canadian PR.
  • Many provinces will issue nominations even without you having a job offer.
  • If you have fewer scores in the section of IELTS, it is better to opt for a PNP. Many provinces accept you even with a low IELTS score as CLB-4.
  • Your processing will be done faster if you opt to go to Canada through PNP rather than any other permanent resident program.
